A Kenyan gets kidney transplant

In 2019, for the first time in the history of the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, the Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, successfully performed a kidney transplant operation for an international patient. Francis John Musembi, 58, a Medical Value Travel patient from Kenya, who was suffering from chronic renal failure, was the beneficiary of the procedure after his brother, Patrick, had donated a kidney. The recipient is now healthy and out of hemodialysis.

Man operated on for large aneurysm

A 75-year old man from Kerala with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, an enlargement of the lower part of the aorta, was successfully operated on by a team of doctors led by Dr. Yusuf Kumble. The aorta is your largest artery, the largest blood vessel in the human body, that carries blood from your heart up to your head and arms and down to your abdomen, legs, and pelvis.

Aortic aneurysm, a blood-filled enlargement of a weakened section of the main artery can be fatal, and it is important to diagnose the condition to avoid fatality.

Indiana doctors perform a rare heart surgery

A patient, Unnikrishnan from Kerala, underwent a rare cardiac surgery at Indiana. It was for the first time that the surgery, called Hybrid Surgery, for which both surgeons and cardiologists come together, was carried out in Mangaluru.
